Stereotyping. This is a huge thing going on in all High Schools in America. I don't think I'm currently in a stereotype group I try to vary who I hang out with. Some stereotypes are:
Skater - A person who enjoys skateboarding or being around skateboarders. Wear bright basic clothes such as t-shirt and jeans with skating shoes. Very versatile stereotype, can be merged with other stereotypes such as Emo Skater (Emo + Skater) or Punk Skater (Punk + Skater). Very protective over who they are, don't like stereotypes.

Preps - Universally stereotyped as snobs.
True Preps: These are rich students who go to preparatory schools (expensive private schools) that are well known from students at public schools and outside of school. These people aren't always snobs, and normally they do much more sophisticated things than an average middle class student. Like for example: instead of playing football or lacrosse, and going to their friend's house for entertainment; they'd play soccer, tennis or do swimming, have membership to their local country club, and have at least a few artistic capabilities or musical skill. These preps dress almost casually with the exception of sometimes wearing plaid shorts or canvas pants.
Preppy Snobs: This branch of preps are rich snobs who believe they are at the top of the society when they are in reality the most hated, they participate in many of the same activities that true preps do. Stereotypical names for this branch of preps include Harrison, Clayton, Claire, or Jessica. These people wear expensive and fancy apparel like Polo Shirts, Ralph Lauren outfits, and golf/dress shoes.
Prep Wannabes: This group of people are the ones that are tricked into thinking that the real preps are actually popular. Ever since preps began favoring ONLY the polo shirts and knit sleeves from Abercrombie and Fitch and Hollister have tricked these posers into thinking that the entire brands are preppy. These people try to act cool by pretending to act rich or acting like a snob themselves.
Emo - An Emo (considered emotionally unstable) may be very similar to Goths in some cases. They wear jeans and dark shirts with heavy metal rock music logos on. Emo is a very versatile stereotype as they mostly are a mix of other stereotypes e.g. Emo Skater, Emo Self Harmer, Punk Emo. Not to be mistaken for Self Harmers or Goths.
Goth - A particularly dark person who may enjoy listening to death metal rock music and/or wearing dark clothes. Not to be mistaken for Self Harmers or Emos.
Mosher - A person who listens to various types of rock music. They get their name from a special dance move associated with heavy metal where you thrust your head backwards and forwards, letting your hair go everywhere.
Self Harmer - Someone who cuts their wrist or other part of their body deliberatly. Anyone who is Goth/Emo is not automatically a Self Harmer unless they do purposefully hurt themselves. Not all Self Harmers aim to kill or seriously injure themselves, most just do it to give themselves pleasure.

Chav - This potentially intimidating stereotype describes people who wear tracksuit tops and bottoms or flat bill hats under a dark hoodie. They are stereotyped mostly for commiting various crimes such as shoplifting, vandalism and street fighting. They hang mostly on street corners on their mobile phone. They mostly travel in groups as they may seem intimidating at first but are mostly cowards when threatened. Not all chavs are criminals but because of a few intimidating features and dress scense, they look like people who would start a fight.
Other variations: Hoodie, Shoplifter, Gangster, Street Hanger, Hanger, Vandal
Punk - They wear chains and have colored mohauks and spiky hair. They wear leather jackets and have always been called rebelilious. They don't care what people say about them. They also listen to different variations of rock music but mostly punk rock, death metal rock and heavy metal rock.
Cholo - A cholo is term implying a Hispanic male that typically dresses in Dickies, a wifebeater sleeveless teeshirt or a flannel shirt with only the top buttoned, a hairnet, or with a bandana around the forehead, usually halfway down over the eyes. Cholos often have black ink tattoos, commonly involving Catholic imagery, or calligraphy messages or family names.
Jock - There is a major difference between a jock and athletes. Jocks tend to abuse their popularity, while the athletes don't really mind who they talk to or hang out with. Jocks are mainly involved in many sports and have lots of girlfriends.
Other variations: Player, Whore/Man Whore
Nerd - A person who does not conform to society's beliefs that all people should follow trends and do what their peers do. Often highly intelligent but socially rejected because of their obesssion with a given subject, usually science.
Other variations: Swot, Geek, Brain/Brainiac, Smartarse
Drama Kid - Someone who is in the schools theatre program, and does school plays. They are well liked but not popular, and they have a very close group. They read Shakespeare for fun, and wear artsy clothing. They often have no shame, becaue they have to do some crazy stuff on stage. Very dramatical most of the time.
Other variations: Drama Queen
Girl Guy/Tom Boy - A person who is in touch with the other sex or who hangs around the other sex more than the same sex. Also they may act like they are the other sex. Boys are usually reffered as 'Gay' or alternatively 'Whore' when they hang around lots of girls. In most cases, this will be due to true homosexuality, metrosexuality or just because they have a lot of friends that are girls. Girls are not often picked on for hanging around with boys a lot, in rare cases they are said to be Popular for having a lot of boy friends. Some people act like the other sex due to having problems with being their true sex (genital problems/bullying).
Other variations: Transexual (F+M), Tranny (F+M), Shemale (F), Popular (F), Gay Lord (M), Gay (M) (Where (M) is Male and (F) is Female)

I want to talk about this because I don't think most people wanna be identify as a stereotype I think they wanna be identify as themselves or unique. I don't want to be identify as a Nerd or a self harmer or as anything else. I love being who I am at times sometimes being who I am isn't good enough for people and I sometimes try to change for people and I'm working on that. I think stereotyping people in high school can hurt some and empower others. Hopefully it will end but I doubt it will. Stereotyping has been going on years and probably will be around in schools for years.
